Come On Mate

Came across this article on the Stuff.co.nz website this morning. It outlines New Zealand Cricket boss Justin Vaughan's attitude surrounding the behaviour of the All Black supporters at the Bledisloe Cup match on the weekend.

He had this to say:

"From what I saw, a portion of the New Zealand contingent ... were focused on consuming vast quantities of alcohol as rapidly as possible, as well as baiting and abusing Australian spectators"

Now maybe it's just me but those guys sound like champions!

That's what the sporting rivalry between NZ and Aussie is all about; getting pissed and shouting a bit of abuse. It's part of what makes the game great.

Even the Aussies have no issue with the behaviour, one of their supporters responded by saying this:

"The atmosphere and general banter between both sets of fans was what I would call well-humoured and non-confrontational."

This guy fucking gets it.

The relationship between NZ and Aussie can best be described as a sibling rivalry. Sure we get pissed and rip the shit out of each other. And sure occasionally that results in the odd brawl. But at the end of the day both sides come out smiling.

I think the NZ Cricket Boss needs to calm the fuck down and spend a bit of time with the punters, he is well out of touch. This sort of behaviour has been part of New Zealand and Australia's cultural identity for centuries. There is no fucking way we should change who we are for the sake of the Rugby World Cup.

These blokes should be celebrated not vilified.

“Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out,shouting...'Holy Mother of God...What a Ride!!!'"
